I've entered some of my Animal and Nature photographs into the Photos for Health contest. Chosen photographs will be installed in various parts of the Riley Hospital for Children. You can "vote" for photographs by clicking on them and then selecting Vote, although I'm not sure how much that will weigh into the Hospital's final decision.

If you would like to see or vote, my photographs start on this page and continue one click to the right.

Last weekend the Brooklyn Cyclones lost the 11-inning game that would have put them in the playoffs, but they kept their promise of a fireworks show over the beach at Coney Island after the game. It was two days before the announced last day of Astroland at Coney Island, and the closure and sale of its rides and games. The 46-year-old amusement park has been in a tug-of-war with its new landlord for the last few years, because it is in New York City, and because it is loved by normal people and probably loathed by rich people, if they could be reached for comment.

The fireworks shows at Coney Island this summer were unbeatable, mostly for the fact that (ignoring most laws in favor of big, ballsy spectacle) the fireworks exploded low and close, sometimes within 3-4 inches from one's face. They were loud and sometimes blinding, but they were a giant fist in the air for anyone who ever fell in love with Coney Island.

Keyspan Park, Coney Island. Brooklyn Cyclones (W) vs. Hudson Valley Renegades. The pizzeria around the corner from my apartment had a dozen free tickets and we got the two best.
